Singer/Songwriter Rick Jensen’s compositions have become standards on the New York City Club circuit, garnering him critical praise and a sizeable collection of awards. He has been seen in venues as diverse as Downtown’s legendary Duplex cabaret to the stage of Carnegie Hall. Other solo appearances include Washington DC’s Source Theatre, The Roslyn Spectrum Theatre in Arlington, VA, The Mabel Mercer Foundation’s Cabaret Convention at Town Hall, Symphony Space, and The Metropolitan Room. The Advocate said of Spring Harvest, the debut CD on which he performs his original material, “there’s a new genius in the room…Cole Porter, Peter Allen, Tom Lehrer, and Nancy Lamott must be beaming down on their collective progeny.” Lee Lessack, Lina Koutrakos, and the late Nancy Lamott are just a few of the well known artists to have recorded a Rick Jensen tune. Beyond his solo work he is frequently found musical directing, accompanying, arranging, producing, and even singing back up for a number of Musical Theatre and Cabaret luminaries including Jason Graae, Liz Callaway, Barbara Fasano, Jeannie McDonald, and Tovah Feldshuh. With Feldshuh, he toured extensively culminating in an appearance at London’s famed Savoy Theatre where they raised over eight million dollars for charity. He will be a featured performer on Composer Carol Hall’s upcoming CD. In 1996 Jensen formed his own recording company, The Doctor Is In Music to record and distribute not only his own albums, but the albums of those performers whose work inspires him. The company has produced numerous acclaimed CD’s. His work has earned him five Manhattan Association of Cabaret and Clubs MAC Awards, Two Backstage Bistro Awards, Two National GLAMA awards, and the cover story of Cabaret Scenes October 2005 issue. He is currently at work in the studio recording his second album.
